Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis
The Anaphylaxis Interest Section aims to further the understanding of Anaphylaxis and Adverse reactions.
We critically evaluate issues surrounding severe food, medication and insect sting allergy as well as other less common diseases including idiopathic anaphylaxis and mast cell disorders. Currently, the Section is undertaking a systematic review of the management of anaphylaxis in schools including the use of school bans and stock epinephrine. This is being performed in concert with the Pediatric Interest Section. The goal is to develop a document with international endorsement and applicability. The section is also working diligently to follow and provide guidance around vaccine anaphylaxis in conjunction with the broader CSACI leadership. The section is also working on guidance around oral food challenges in conjunction with the broader CSACI leadership. Finally, the CSACI Anaphylaxis Section is working to translate knowledge around early food introduction in conjunction with upcoming and ongoing guidance from the Canadian Pediatric Society.

Elissa Abrams is an Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Section of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, University of Manitoba. She is an Associate Member, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Allergy and Immunology, University of British Columbia. She is completing her MPH at Johns Hopkins with a focus on healthcare policy and risk communication. She is Chair of the Food Allergy/Anaphylaxis Section of the Canadian Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and President of the Allergy Section of the Canadian Pediatric Society. Research interests include food allergy, food allergy prevention, asthma and healthcare policy.
